BMW Headquarters Factory Will Completely Stop Production Of Oil Cars

The Munich plant, the oldest of the BMW Group, was founded in 1922 and produces BMW 3 Series sedans and station wagons, as well as 4, 6, 8, 12-cylinder petrol engines and 8-cylinder diesel engines, as well as high-performance engines used in the M Series models.

BMW's Munich plant is seen as the "heart" of BMW's smooth transition to the era of electric vehicles. In 2015, the plant realized plug-in hybrid 3 series and fuel version 3 series line production; In 2018, BMW announced an investment of 200 million euros over four years in the plant at its Munich headquarters to expand production capacity for electric models. At the same time, BMW will also set up a battery research and development center at the plant. In 2021, the BMW i4 model will roll off the production line from the plant, which not only means the launch of BMW's electric vehicle pure face offensive, but also means that the headquarters factory can flexibly manufacture all powertrain models, including gasoline, hybrid and pure electric, on a single production line.

In November 2023, BMW stopped the production of internal combustion engine cars in Germany, and the last V8 internal combustion engine produced by it was rolled off the production line at the Munich factory on November 10, 2023, marking the end of an era for BMW in Germany, and the future will be fully transformed into electrification. After 2024, the Munich plant will no longer produce fuel engines, and the production requirements for fuel engines will be transferred to factories in Austria and the United Kingdom. However, the complete production of fuel vehicles at the Munich plant will not be cancelled, at least until 2027.

With the announcement of BMW's phasing out of fuel engines at the Munich plant and increasing the production of electric vehicles, BMW's efforts in the process of electrification can be seen. According to the plan, 2025 will be an important node of the BMW Group's electrification strategy, when it will usher in a "new generation" product array; By the end of 2025, the BMW Group plans to deliver 2 million pure electric vehicles worldwide. By 2030, at least 50% of the Group's global sales are expected to come from pure electric models.

In 2023, BMW will introduce five all-electric models in the Chinese market: BMW iX, BMW i4, BMW iX3, BMW i3 and BMW i7. In 2023, the BMW Group delivered a total of 824,932 BMW and MINI vehicles in the Chinese market, an increase of 4.2%. Among them, BMW brand pure electric models have a strong sales performance, delivering nearly 100,000 vehicles in the year, becoming an important pillar of BMW's overall sales growth.

Next, BMW will further strengthen the electric product offensive. 2025 will usher in a "new generation" product array. The "new generation" model will feature a completely redesigned IT and software architecture, a new generation of high-performance electric drive systems and batteries, and a new concept of sustainability throughout the vehicle life cycle, particularly prioritizing the use of recycled materials and promoting a circular economy. By the end of 2025, the BMW Group plans to deliver 2 million pure electric vehicles worldwide. By 2030, at least 50% of the Group's global sales are expected to come from pure electric models.
